What to Expect on Your Wedding Day with Daniel

One of the most common things couples tell me in the lead-up to their wedding is that they are not sure exactly what happens during the ceremony — the order of events, what I will say, when they speak, where to stand.

That uncertainty is completely normal. Most people have only ever attended weddings as guests, not as the people at the front. So here is a clear, honest look at what your wedding day with me actually looks like, from the moment I arrive to the moment you walk away as a married couple.

Before the Day: We Have Already Done the Work Together

By the time your wedding day arrives, we will have spent real time together. We will have had at least one in-depth conversation about your relationship — how you met, what you love about each other, what you want your ceremony to feel like. I will have written a ceremony that reflects you as a couple, and you will have had the chance to read it, give feedback, and make it feel right.

You will know your vows. You will know the structure. The day itself should feel like a celebration of something you have already prepared for, not a performance you are walking into blind.

My Arrival

I arrive at your venue well before the ceremony start time — typically 30 to 45 minutes early. This gives me time to:

  • Check in with your venue coordinator
  • Walk the ceremony space and confirm positioning
  • Test any audio equipment if we are using a microphone
  • Connect with your photographer and any other key vendors
  • Be available if you or your partner need anything

I am not someone who shows up at the last minute. I want to be calm and present before the ceremony begins, so that energy carries through.

The Processional

When it is time to begin, I will be standing at the front of the ceremony space, facing your guests. The music starts, and the processional begins.

Whether you are walking in together, being walked down the aisle by a parent, or making a grand entrance to a song that means something to you — I will be there, watching, and genuinely moved. It is a moment that never loses its meaning.

The Welcome and Introduction

Once everyone is in place, I open the ceremony with a welcome to your guests and a brief introduction. This is where I set the tone — warm, personal, and focused entirely on the two of you.

I will acknowledge the Country we are gathering on, welcome guests who have travelled from interstate or overseas, and begin to tell your story.

Your Story

This is the heart of the ceremony. I will share how you met, what your relationship has meant, the moments that have defined you as a couple. I write this from our conversations, and I work hard to make it feel true — not like a generic speech, but like something only I could say about the two of you.

Guests often tell me afterwards that this is their favourite part. It is the moment when the room really settles in and feels the weight of what is happening.

The Legal Vows

Australian law requires that certain words be spoken during a legal marriage ceremony. I will say my part, and then you will each say yours. These are short — just a few sentences — and I will prompt you through them clearly so there is no pressure to memorise anything.

Your Personal Vows (If You Are Writing Them)

If you have chosen to write your own vows, this is the moment. I will give you a gentle cue, and you will speak directly to each other.

My advice: write from the heart, keep them to around one to two minutes each, and do not worry about crying. Crying is fine. It is actually wonderful.

If you would prefer not to write your own vows, that is completely okay. Many couples choose to use the legal vows only, and the ceremony is no less meaningful for it.

The Ring Exchange

I will prompt you through the ring exchange with words that frame the significance of what you are doing. You will each place the ring on your partner's finger and say a short phrase — I will guide you through this in real time.

The Pronouncement

This is the moment. I will declare you legally married under Australian law, and you will have your first kiss as a married couple. Your guests will cheer. You will probably cry. It is the best moment of the whole day.

Signing the Marriage Certificate

After the ceremony, we move to the signing. You will both sign the official marriage certificate, as will your two witnesses. I sign as the authorised celebrant.

This is a beautiful, intimate moment — often photographed — and it is also the legal completion of your marriage. I will have everything prepared and will guide you through it smoothly.

After the Ceremony

Once the signing is done, you are free. The formalities are complete. I will make sure you have everything you need, answer any final questions, and then quietly step back so you can enjoy the rest of your day.

I lodge the official paperwork with the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages on your behalf. You do not need to do anything further.

Every ceremony I conduct is different, because every couple is different. But the care, the preparation, and the genuine investment in making your day feel exactly right — that is always the same.

If you have questions about what your ceremony might look like, I am always happy to chat.
